About Safe for Children
We want to make New Zealand the safest place in the world to raise a child.
As an independent expert in child protection and child health and safety, Safe for Children has set out to help grow a nation of child safe organisations where children can thrive.
Providing services, tools and training, we combine expertise in the regulatory environment with practical experience in programme management and quality improvement.
Founder and Director Donna Bouzaid brings a deep understanding of the impact of high quality child safe programmes and how this can be achieved with the right support and advice.
For the past 25 years Donna has enjoyed a broad and extensive career in the out of school care and recreation sector. She has led the development of both regional and national advice, support and training, managed a privately-owned after school service, led Ministry of Social Development audits, represented the OSCAR sector on Government advisory groups and led Children’s Services for YMCA New Zealand.
Donna understands there can be many barriers to becoming a child safe organisation – fear, denial, a lack of resources or knowledge, and/or complacency. She also knows that with the right help and support, organisations can overcome those barriers and establish high quality child safe programmes.

“I formed Safe for Children to make change. New Zealand is the fifth worst country in the OECD for child abuse. It’s up to us to keep children safe and I want to help organisations do all they can to prevent harm to children.” - Donna Bouzaid
